Sharps are the standard bearer of hand sewing needles. Medium length, a fine round eye, and a sharp point that passes cleanly through most woven fabrics. They’re the needle most sewists reach for first, and for good reason. Whether you’re hemming a garment, hand-finishing a seam, repairing a tear, attaching a button, working a running stitch, or doing any of the hundred small hand sewing tasks that come up in a life of making, a sharp needle is what you need.
SOHMO Sharps are made in Japan by a manufacturer with over 100 years of needle-making experience. Ten precision processes go into each needle, and the result is a needle that is consistently smooth, sharp, and strong. Nickel-plated steel with a gold-plated eye for easier threading and a finish that glides through fabric without catching.
This tin contains 20 needles across four sizes – a practical assortment that lets you match the needle to the fabric and thread weight rather than making do with one size for everything:
- 7 gauge (0.69 × 38.10mm) — the largest in this tin. For heavier fabrics, thicker threads, or anyone who prefers a slightly easier-to-handle needle
- 8 gauge (0.61 × 36.50mm) — a good all-rounder for medium-weight wovens, cotton, and linen
- 9 gauge (0.53 × 34.90mm) — finer, for lighter fabrics and more delicate hand finishing
- 10 gauge (0.46 × 33.30mm) — the finest in this tin. For lightweight fabrics, fine thread, and detailed work where a larger needle would leave a visible hole
Five of each size per tin, enough to always have a fresh needle to hand.
Packaged in a compact sliding-lid tin, the same format as all SOHMO needle tins, small enough for a travel kit or sewing box, secure enough to protect the needles between sessions.
